How YOU can help the Historical Glass Museum

Winter/Spring 2020

The Museum is in need of volunteers for the following:

Board Members:
The Historical Glass Museum is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and volunteer curators and docents. We welcome members who would be willing to volunteer their time as a Board member, to join in making the decisions which affect the operation of our Museum. The Board meets for approximately two hours, once a month, and members who cannot attend at the Museum can attend Board meetings via conference call. Would you be willing to add your experience and knowledge to help the Museum continue?

Docents:
We're in need of one or more volunteers to greet guests at the Museum and act as a tour guide to bring the contents of the Museum alive. You can help a lot by serving as little as one day a month, as we're only open on weekends. One does not have to be an "expert" on glass to serve. We train docents to know about the various display cases and to be able to answer simple questions. If you are willing to be personable and helpful to visitors, that's about all the qualifications you need. We'll help with the rest. Docents also operate the gift shop, a vital link in the continuing operations of our Museum. Contact our President if you are willing to be considered.

Inventory Project:
We are embarking on a project to update and photograph the inventory of the museum's collection. Kathi Jablonsky, a retired appraiser, will be the project coordinator.

We are working on the Paperweight collection presently. Each object will have images, measurements and full description. We plan on sending out spotlights regularly featuring items added to the database. You'll find photos posted periodically to our facebook page.

We are seeking volunteers to assist with this. This is an opportunity to learn skills applicable to appraising and museum practices. Volunteering your time is another way that you can support the Museum. If you are interested in assisting, please contact Kathi at KJ@jablonskyconsulting.com

Cleaning Day - third Thursday:
If you live reasonably close to the Museum and have some spare time on Thursdays, we have a work day every third Thursday, where we open a case or two and dust, rearrange, or replace the contents. The operation of the Museum is strictly done by volunteers, and this particular effort does not involve interaction with the public.

And, of course, Donations:
We are continuously building our Restoration Fund, which will be used to pay for the frequently needed improvements to our hundred-year-old historic building. Donations to the Historical Glass Museum are tax deductible as we are an IRS qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Visit our donations page for more information.
